Jesse’s conference was eye-opening and mind-boggling. I find it fascinating how technology and more particularly social media connects us, all the time if we wanted! The idea of having students pacified with technology is a question I often reflect on when I see parents giving a device to their children to calm down. I wonder if one day when I become a father, would I do the same thing?
“It takes one bad thing that happens to have a problem”. This sentence shared by Jesse really got to me, because I feel like it’s totally possible, as future teachers, to have to deal with social media or internet-related challenges between students and teachers too!
Should our children have social media? And if so, what would be the appropriate age? I guess this is not an easy question to answer, as it is most likely context-dependent. I often ask my self about health issues that will arise later in life-related to screens and our extensive time spent on screens. So far it does not seem to be an issue I see in my direct environment. However as a future teacher, I am sure, this challenge will be more present.
I really liked when Jesse mentioned: “We shape tools, and thereafter, those tools shape us”. There is so much to reflect on in this sentence!
I really appreciated when Jesse mentioned getting to know the environment we are working in. It is giving me insight but also stirring my cautiousness and curiosity.
