While watching this documentary, High Tech Highschool stood out to me because of the collaborative and authentic work displayed by students and teachers. Their slogan: “connect the classroom to the world” seems powerful and we can see some examples there: building, collaborating, acting, etc. I also liked that students came from different socio-economical backgrounds. Witnessing the Science fair/expo the students and teachers delivered to their community were impressive to see. Students showcased what they created and appeared to be very proud of their work. They “made something that was not there before”. Additionally, it was inspiring to see the perseverance that some students had and the remarkable progress they did within a school year. These, to my opinion, are all important elements in a school because students are learning by doing, and failing and making mistakes are considered fully part of the experience. Another element that stood out to me is how High Tech high school values the educational environment and its impact on students’ feelings and development. Finally, I loved how there was a mention by Sir Ken Robinson that said: “Education is a complex human system” because education is about people and people are complex. We all behave differently as humans, whence the importance of fostering skillful students that follow their own awes.
